Although uneven with the laughs, especially toward the third act, the three lead actresses have energetic chemistry with Mila Kunis and Kathryn Hahn being the headliners. As a rental this might be a worthwhile watch and perhaps a purchase down the line at a discount.

It’s not hard to see why Jupiter Ascending was delayed 9 months (and I don’t buy the official reasons) as it was one cluster-f of a film and the problem is, it wasn’t even an entertaining cluster-f (unlike Batman & Robin). The acting is pretty wooden though these actors aren’t given much to work with.

The acting is rather wooden though these actors aren’t given much to work with but on the plus side it looks and sound fantastic, even demo worthy, so if there’s any reason to pop this movie in, it’d be to show off your home theater.

While well intentioned, The Color of Time is basically a student film, by Franco’s pupils, with high level actors filling the roles. The story isn’t that well written and all in all just not that interesting. The DVD released by Anchor Bay is very basic with no features and so-so video and audio transfers.

Oz the Great and Powerful is a fine piece of film making with Raimi and company doing a fine job at least tying it with The Wizard of Oz, although a side effect being, similar to the Star Wars prequels, you kind of delude the mystery of the Wizard by revealing it in a prequel. Even so, though, it’s an enjoyable and entertaining film that doesn’t quite hit its mark yet still passed the time nicely.

While Friends with Benefits doesn’t have the same kind of magic or quirkiness of Easy A, it’s still worthwhile to check out. Timberlake and Kunis share on-screen chemistry and even though the script embraces the same clichés it opening mocked early on, I still found the film to be funny. As far as the Blu-ray is concerned, the video/audio are good and the features, save for the features, are unremarkable.

“Robot Chicken” is easily one of the funniest shows on television and a personal favorite of mine. This fifth season, while not the strongest in its run, has some funny bits and like before, a great collection of guest voice talents. Seth Green and company also know how to package a home video release with plenty of features to justify the price given each episode is only 11-12 minutes long.

The big reason Eli even works is because of Denzel Washington as there are not many actors who have an immediate command of the screen as he does. One moment Washington can be a bad ass slicing down bad guys in seconds and the next he’s a soft spoken philosopher dispensing scripture or advice. He does it all and with relative ease.

I’m being gracious by giving this film half a star, as though it was probably one of the worst movies I’ve seen in at least two days. The phenomenon that was Mike Judge is no more, as the last few of his flicks have tanked at the box-office and also with movie-goers all around. The characters suck, the jokes suck, and Ben Affleck’s character is slightly amusing.

extract

Mike Judge scored a cult hit with Office Space a film that did abysmal business at the box office but took on a life of its own speaking to all those who have endured the tireless daily gruel of the corporate office. Problem is, in what is only Judge’s third film in 10 years, Extract never quite strike the right chord despite a few funny scenes…
