The Kitchen is the epitome of an un-ambitious movie that is less of a love song to the crime-dramas of the 1970s and instead features a myriad of topes and clichés from the era.
The Walk, technically speaking, is a well done biographical drama. However, I really didn’t find Petit’s past all that interesting in spite of a nice performance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, French accent and all. But as one would expect, the highlight of the film is the prep and actual walk across the Twin Towers.
Echoes of War had some passion behind it for sure with respectable production and costume designs but the story itself is weak and some of the acting was a bit off thanks to poor casting choices. The DVD released by Arc Entertainment is rather basic with limited while the audio/video transfers are average.
World War Z isn’t a bad movie, far from it, as it efficiently entertains from beginning to end though Brad Pitt more or less sleepwalks through his role. However, this film is the epitome of wasted opportunities as this could have been one of the best in the genre to come out but instead it’s just a safe movie with nothing discernibly memorable. The Blu-ray combo set released by Paramount provides excellent audio/video transfers but the features leave much to be desired.
