Wild Card is one unusual film if only that it comes across as a mish-mash of a feature film mixed with some kind of TV pilot with the variety of colorful side characters and a patch-work of a plot. Statham for his part though was fine albeit no different than any of his other run-of-the-mill crime-thrillers and the supporting cast was good but often underutilized to the point of being useless (Jason Alexander for instance has one scene and is not seen again… at all).
The Hoax is a well made docu-drama/comedy with strong performances from Richard Gere and Alfred Molina. The story is interesting and mostly unknown making for a gripping drama on the whole. The Blu-ray release has some OK features, the audio was average but the video transfer was surprisingly excellent especially considering it is a budget title.
The Family Tree might not be the greatest offbeat indie comedy I’ve come across but the film has its moments. The cast for the most part are fine, albeit there isn’t one actor or actress that particularly standout. The Blu-ray offers up good video and audio transfers while the features are limited.
