Ghost Ship is the worst kind of horror movie. It’s pretty darn dull, nothing especially frightening although I’ll give it some props for a decent set design and gore effects, just not much else going for it.
Pompeii is plagued by ho-hum direction and a poor screenplay and story that fails to give any breathing room for, especially, character development and a reason why we, the viewer, should even care about the events or the relationship. But for all that’s wrong, I will say Harrington, Browning and Akinnuote all turn in fine performances, giving it their best as they are out of their elements.
I don’t think Sucker Punch is a movie one should be dismissive of. Yes, an argument can be made that this is basically CGI porn and the story can be nonsensical but I think somewhere in here there is a compelling movie, it just gets lost in the CG and fantasy worlds. The Blu-ray itself has decent features and solid audio and video transfers making this a good purchase for fans, though be forewarned, I’m certain a director’s cut will be released at some point down the line.
The Uninvited isn’t a particularly a great movie by any stretch but it did manages to exceed my own low expectations given it was advertised as yet another PG-13 teen horror movie. Also, some may not like the ending but for me it was surprising enough, even if the groundwork to get to that point was a bit lazy.
