A simple plot seemingly went a long way with this film since it made a ton of dough at the box office. And while some of it is clearly warranted, I really don’t see how this became the smash-hit with people calling it the best film of 2009.

I vaguely remember a conversation with a friend of mine when The Hangover was released, and the conversation was about how I thought the movie would be a complete bomb. The fact that the cast was relatively unknown, the premise seemed ridiculous, and also it just didn’t appear to be funny to me from the trailers were the main reasons I considered it to flop. Little did I know that the film would go on to make more than $450,000,000 worldwide and spawn another sequel slated for 2011.

Here is the trailer for the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz action/comedy, Knight and Day, coming July 2, 2010.

Well, apparently someone doesn’t want this trailer be to be embedded, I checked 4 or 5 others and those were disabled as well. Sorry about that, but at least you can click the link and view on YouTube.com

I must have watched 10 Things I Hate About You 50+ times over the years and it never gets old. And of course with the passing of Heath Ledger it took on another angle seeing a great talent in his first Hollywood role, one that would catapult him into fame, a status he took seriously taking the road less traveled rather than going after the easy dollar doing more teen comedies. And that makes 10 Things even more special.

Mike Judge scored a cult hit with Office Space a film that did abysmal business at the box office but took on a life of its own speaking to all those who have endured the tireless daily gruel of the corporate office. Problem is, in what is only Judge’s third film in 10 years, Extract never quite strike the right chord despite a few funny scenes…

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

The sequel to the 2006 box office smash, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian starts off awfully slow referencing many of the events of the original that even those who saw the first one (like myself) still was quite unfunny. But as the film dragged on and the inane plot took some kind of shape, the movie manages to be some fun by the end.

deadline

In the latest in the line of direct-to-video horror-thrillers, Deadline pits two actresses who were on the rise in the late 90s/early 2000s, only to falter and rely on half-assed screenplays. […] However, neither actress has really risen to those lofty levels taking on some decent supporting roles […], before starring in some fairly lousy direct-to-video entries including The Ramen Girl and the incredibly awful Train.

santabuddies

I vaguely remember a television show (probably “Family Guy”) talking about how bad direct-to-DVD films normally are. Yes, it’s quite apparent that they are just used for a quick cash-in by companies at the right time. Take for example Santa Buddies, which is targeted towards parents with kids in need of a movie that odds are the whole family can enjoy. Sorry parents to burst your bubble, your kids might enjoy this one but I guarantee you that it will fall short on your end and your wallet at the same time.

terminator4-2

There comes a time when a film series just needs to stop. Take for example, the lucrative Harry Potter franchise. We will soon be done with those, but after the third one the movies for me at least got stale and stopped being fun for me. That of course, was a transition, which I just recently learned about. See, I’m going to tell you about how the latest into the Terminator movies, aptly titled Terminator Salvation, is going to be the end all for the franchise. So yes fans of the film, Bale won’t be back… hopefully.
