I can’t say Father of Invention is a bad film but one that’s disappointing considering the kind of cast writer/director Trent Cooper managed to wrangle. It’s not sure what kind of film it’s supposed to be and the performances, or how the characters were written, was either average or at times even annoying.

Dazed and Confused doesn’t quite live up to what I’ve heard about the film and yet there is a cool factor and a certain sense of nostalgia (though Linklater himself said that is not the intention) that makes this liberally boundless story so damn enjoyable through and through.

Cars 2 is proof that no studio is perfect and they all have missteps and hopefully this will be Pixar’s only one for the next 10 years. When it comes to the movie itself, there is some charming moments but they are too far and between and usually interrupted by Mater’s annoying persona.

G-Force may not be the best in terms of kid’s movies to come out recently, but it is a decent affair that most will enjoy. There are a few jokes here and there for parents to enjoy although this is a movie that will portray to mostly the younger children. The technical package is reference material in terms of the audio while the 3D video is OK – but nothing special – and the features are outstanding.

The Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy is far from perfect but with one great film, one entertaining film and another with squandered potential, this is still a worthwhile set to add to anyone’s collection. The features have all been ported over and even include a well-made six-part documentary (which totals 130 minutes in length). The video is a bit disappointing but the audio is excellent.

An Invisible Sign was an intriguing movie that took some time to pick up and get into. Jessica Alba plays a role that I don’t believe she has played in the past and does it very well. She’s difficult to relate to and quirky to boot. The actual Blu-ray has a sever lack of features and the video quality is mediocre throughout the majority of the film.

Trespass is the sort of the film that, from afar, had potential but upon closer inspection is just perplexing. The character’s actions make little sense, the criminals’ activities/motivations seemed to come from a rejected episode of “Criminal Minds” and the acting ranges from sleepwalking (Kidman) to just odd (unsurprisingly Cage). It’s not a bad film by any stretch as the direction at least makes it look good but the screenplay needed work.

Captain America: The First Avenger has a few things going for it, mostly in the set design, costume design and cinematography but most everything else was standard and unimaginative including actor Chris Evans himself. There’s certainly a fine jump off point for this potential franchise I think in the hands of a better director, it could achieve so much more.

A decent rental, but unless you are in love with any of these actors, Horrible Bosses might be a tough buy at $20. For $10, I’d say go for it. The Blu-ray boasts average picture and audio quality, with little to no extras, so be warned.

Toy Story 3 is a heartwarming, bittersweet and funny film that both kids and adults will absolutely love – and I would argue that the adults may find a more emotional impact especially if you were a child when the first film was released. The 3D Blu-ray itself has incredible video and audio which is to no surprise for a Pixar/Disney release.

This Toy Story 2 3D Blu-ray set is something else. A fantastic movie with incredible audio and very good 3D video presentations (not to mention excellent 2D video) yet the special features hold it back from becoming one of the best Blu-rays released on the whole. If, however, features are not your thing, then this is a no-brainer and even so, it’s still a must-have for anyone’s high-def collection.

If for some reason you haven’t seen Toy Story or you haven’t seen it in years, there’s no better time to see it again, now in Blu-ray high-def with some decent extras to keep you occupied, plus both the audio and video are top notch and well worth the upgrade. With regards to the 3D Blu-ray, it was surprising to see something that was post converted to 3D looked so good.

Faces in the Crowd hardly breaks new ground in the genre, but it has a few things going for it Milla Jovovich turns in a good performance, the mystery aspects are at least compelling and what writer/director Magnat does by putting the audience in the main character’s mindset is unique and effective. The Blu-ray itself is light in features but is strong with the audio and video transfers.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is still a fantastic, hilarious and, in John Hughes fashion, heartwarming film. For me and my family, it hasn’t quite risen to the traditional yearly viewing that Christmas Vacation has become, but certainly this should be required viewing as well.
