Shrek: The Whole Story 4-disc box set may not be perfect in terms of features, but the audio and video transfers are all great and worthy of an upgrade over their DVD counterparts. As for the movies themselves, it may not be to the level of Pixar’s Toy Story movies but even the weaker third entry was at least bearable.

Overall, I liked parts of And Soon the Darkness. Even though the first act is a bit on the plodding side, I do understand the reasoning behind it to both establish the two friends and get a little suspense built up and on the first part, the movie does succeed. The remaining 60-minutes however are good even if some of the plot elements were on the eye-rolling side and the big twist could have been seen a couple miles away.

Salt isn’t the best action movie out there and when it compares to the Daniel Craig Bond or Bourne movies probably a cut above Quantum of Solace but well below Bourne, I still enjoyed it for what it was and to appreciate the skill and beauty of Angelina Jolie. The Blu-ray itself excels in both the video and audio while the features, although nothing noteworthy, are good. The highlight for this release is the fact you get 3 versions including the “Unrated Director’s Cut” which was the version I recommend.

After a long delay, I finally got the entire review done of this massive 6-disc Blu-ray set and I will admit, this is easily the best movie collection on Blu-ray that I’ve encountered as it not only ported over every feature from not only the 9-disc DVD set (which I am happy to finally rid myself of) but also some text and image features from the old Laserdisc Archive (not to mention fantastic audio and video transfers). So, click the link below and see the breakdown of what all is included…

The Disappearance of Alice Creed is a nice indie picture from that is pretty intense and unrelenting from beginning to end. The film also features three great performances with rising star Gemma Arterton standing out amongst them. The Blu-ray has a surprisingly amazing looking picture and good if not adequate audio.

This RoboCop Trilogy doesn’t look or sound too bad especially when you take each film’s age into consideration, but the fact that MGM left off all the features from the 20th Anniversary Edition (it included a commentary, deleted scenes, featurettes and more) is almost unforgivable.

The Peacemaker has all earmarks of a generic mid/late ‘90s action-thriller and is only remembered thanks to the then up-and-coming star in George Clooney and the beauty of Nicole Kidman otherwise this could’ve easily been just another direct-to-video affair. The Blu-ray itself has a nice enough, though unimpressive, video transfer while the audio is also suitable with some good depth during the action scenes but the dialogue levels could’ve been better.

The Losers could have been a fun little action flick but instead most of the action-filled scenes are kind of mundane and the story itself isn’t very interesting. I guess those who are a fan of the comic book might enjoy the film for what it is, but I had hoped that instead of a toned down PG-13 flick, we could’ve instead gotten something similar to Wanted, a film that goes all-out with its sex and violence and thus provided a unique entertainment experience.

Valentine’s Day may be a two-hour cliché but at the same time it’s fairly harmless and might please some people out there, but for me, I like my romantic-comedies to have, oh I don’t know, a little comedy thrown in there. I know… that’s a silly thing to expect. The Blu-ray itself is also a disappointment with a merely passable video transfer, a decent audio track and some subpar extras, most of which are exclusives.

As a comic book fan, in general, I found Elektra to be one of the most mundane and average comic book movie ever. There’s nothing really memorable, such as an action sequence, nor the performance from the lovely Jennifer Garner. However, Elektra does make a good time-waster and a film you don’t have to think about… at all.

The Relic may not be a top notched film but looking at it as a call back to the old days of monster horror flicks, I think it works well enough to be a satisfactory Saturday movie night viewing party. The Blu-ray at least ports over all the features from the DVD version and the 7.1 channel audio is amazing.

Jade may be underrated in its vitriol but by the same token it’s still not a very good movie even with some erotic sex scenes meant to titillate and instead are weird (nothing new from Friedkin) bordering on boring. You add in a plot that isn’t very intriguing and a lead actor who is even less so and you’ve got a movie that deserves to be forgotten.

Sorority Row may just be another slasher pic with some unique kills but the finale is the real killer of this film. However, the audio and video are both solid and although I would’ve liked to have seen better featurettes than the standard EPK-like one’s we got, the Picture-in-Picture track is decent but the audio and video are both quite good and make this set a slightly above average Blu-ray.

Although not as bad as I had imagined going in, Whiteout sadly just isn’t a special suspense-thriller. Indeed it does have a good moment or two but with a story that doesn’t exude feature film quality and instead it’s on par with a TV series or worse, SyFy Channel TV movie. My recommendation is that fans of Kate Beckinsale might want to give it a rental otherwise wait for it to air on HBO.
