The Angry Birds Movie 2 is a pointless but ultimately harmless sequel that the kids will enjoy and adults with kids can watch with them and not want to gauge their eyes out and the humor itself is on the obvious plain but fine.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post.
The opinions I share are my own.

THE MOVIE — 3.0/5

Plot Synopsis: The flightless angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in The Angry Birds 2. When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger, Red (JASON SUDEIKIS), Chuck (JOSH GAD), Bomb (DANNY MCBRIDE), and Mighty Eagle (PETER DINKLAGE) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (RACHEL BLOOM) and team up with pigs Leonard (BILL HADER), his assistant, Courtney (AWKWAFINA), and techpig, Garry (STERLING K. BROWN), to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely super team to save their homes.

Quick Hit Review: The first Angry Birds movie I found to be passable but not very memorable, but it did manage to rake in $352 million worldwide to mediocre-to-negative reviews, so it was surprising this was getting a sequel. Well, The Angry Birds 2, like the first, I guess has its moments and the animation is pretty to look at, but I was at best mildly entertained. Not sure how much better this one over the last as I don’t remember anything about it, but I have to assume it was an improvement. I guess.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 3.25/5

Presumably, this release comes with a slip cover (the one I received from the studio did not) and redemption code for the Digital HD copy. Here is the listing of the features included:

“Live Stream” Mini-Movie — When Silver attempts her first livestream, Red is the ultimate Angry Bird while the adorable Hatchlings get into mischief.

6 Classic Hatchling Mini Movies

DIY Family Fun — “Hangry Birds: Popcorn Balls”, “Smarty Birds: Crafty Volcano”, “Crafty Birds: Pig Snot!”

Bird Watching — In this “birds-eye” view of the real-life species that inspired the artists, we take a trip to the LA ZOO to get up close and personal with real-life Mighty Eagles, Blue Birds, Toucans, and more. With fun reactions from the cast intercut throughout the piece – get ready to laugh, learn and meet some amazing avian friends

Meet The New Birds & Pigs — Join the returning cast and meet the new cast members giving voice to the characters in Angry Birds 2.

Hatching the Hatchlings — In Angry Birds 2, we get to join the Hatchlings on their very own adventure.

Happy Thanks-pigging — Zeta is not a fan of the traditional Thanksgiving menu.

Jingle Birds: A Holiday Song From The Cast of Angry Birds 2 — Sing along with Rachel Bloom and Jason Sudeikis with a new twist on this holiday classic.

VIDEO – 4.25/5

Sony releases The Angry Birds Movie 2 onto Blu-ray presented in the original theatrical 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a fine looking 1080p high-definition transfer. As with any CGI animated movies, they usually do look great in HD and this is no exception, colors are generally vibrant and detail fairly well defined with no obvious signs of artifacting or aliasing.

AUDIO – 3.75/5

The included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is serviceable enough outputting clear dialogue through the center channel and some modest ambient noises and music via the front and rear channels. Nothing outstanding but for a movie of this ilk, not sure if I needed much more.

OVERALL – 3.25/5

Overall, The Angry Birds Movie 2 is a pointless but ultimately harmless sequel that the kids will enjoy and adults with kids can watch with them and not want to gauge their eyes out and the humor itself is on the obvious plain but fine. Much like the first movie, doubtful I’ll remember this one year’s time.
