Mother Wore Tights is a well made 1940s era musical and while it wasn’t always my thing as I generally am not the biggest fan of the genre, it was still mildly enjoyable.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Frank Burt (DAN DAILEY) is a vaudeville performer who drafts young Myrtle McKinley (BETTY GRABLE) for a theatrical production. During a successful run as a stage team, Myrtle and Frank fall in love, marry and have two children. Myrtle goes into semi-retirement, but is later lured back to the spotlight, and their act is able to conjure the old magic. But when one of their daughters grows unhappy with her mother’s ongoing performance schedule, the family must deal with the hard feelings.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. Only feature is the Mother Wore Tights Radio Program.

VIDEO – 4.0/5, AUDIO – 4.0/5

Twilight Time releases the movie in its original 1.33 full frame aspect ratio and presented with a 1080p high-definition transfer which does look very good with the Technicolor production style where colors are bright without seeming oversaturated. There were some minor specs but nothing I consider distracting. The disc includes a standard but fine DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track which of course comes to life during the musical numbers whilst also producing clear dialogue.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Mother Wore Tights is a well made 1940s era musical and while it wasn’t always my thing as I generally am not the biggest fan of the genre, it was still mildly enjoyable and the Twilight Time release has good video and audio transfers but lacked much in the way of bonus features.
