PLOT SYNOPSIS |
|
There is little hope for bandit Dee Bishop (DEAN MARTIN) and his gang as they wait to be hanged. But at the last second, the hangman — Dee’s brother, Mace (JAMES STEWART), in disguise — helps them escape. After kidnapping a rancher’s wife (RAQUEL WELCH) and with the vengeful sheriff (GEORGE KENNEDY) in pursuit, they retreat to an abandoned town. Tired of their desperado life, the brothers consider going straight. But when a gang of bandoleros attacks, their chances at starting over seem dim. |

| The movie comes to Blu-ray thanks to Twilight Time where it’s presented with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer provided by Fox. Although it’s doubtful any major restoration work was done by Fox, the picture still looks great. Detail is sharp throughout and colors are in keeping with the time period this was shot, so no artificially boosting. The only drawback is there were some minor scratches and specs here and there, but nothing so apparent or distracting.
The included DTS-HD Master Audio 4.0 track (2.0 option also available) provides clear dialogue levels and some minor, yet modest, depth coming across the four channels. |
