Wings for the Eagle is a lesser war drama (and romance) saved mostly for the performances by Ann Sheridan and Dennis Morgan. This is the first release for the movie on DVD and probably would be a nice watch for fans of that era of cinema.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Draft dodger Corky Jones (DENNIS MORGAN) lands a job at the Lockheed aircraft plant in Burbank, California. Needing a place to stay, Corky moves in with his old pal Brad (JACK CARSON) and his wife Roma (ANN SHERIDAN) to Brad’s delight and Roma’s chagrin. Things flare up between the pals when Roma’s chagrin turns to something more and Corky moves out of his now jealous pal’s place. Complications increase after Roma leaves Brad and all three ends up working at the plant. Patriotism trumps passions when Pearl Harbor is attacked, and Corky learns a lesson in duty and sacrifice from an immigrant father (GEORGE TOBIAS) and son (Russell Arms) he works with. Dodging the draft no longer, Corky enlists while committing to two missions – one he needs to accomplish before the shipping out, and the other high in the air.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

No features were included.

VIDEO – 3.0/5, AUDIO – 2.75/5

The movie is presented with a full frame 1.37 aspect ratio and like most of these older archive titles, the picture quality is usually mixed at best. You’re not going to get some brilliant video however the gift is that this is the first time it’s been available on DVD. Similarly, the Dolby Digital Mono track is serviceable enough, dialogue sounds fine but you do get some pops and hisses.

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, Wings for the Eagle is a lesser war drama (and romance) saved mostly for the performances by Ann Sheridan and Dennis Morgan. This is the first release for the movie on DVD and probably would be a nice watch for fans of that era of cinema.
