The Prime Minister is an interesting drama with plentry of parallels to the incredible rise to the top of the UK government of Winston Churchill. It’s a bit long winded in spots but performances were decent enough.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Bitterly opposed by the other side of the aisle, British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (JOHN GIELGUD) finds scant support even from his own party as he strives to protect his nation from dark forces growing in Europe. The film follows the politician’s life from foppish novelist to revered statesman. And it all starts with a “meet cute,” as the overly outfitted Disraeli crashes his bicycle contraption into the coach of the widowed Lady Mary Anne Wyndham (DIANA WYNYARD). Lady Mary Anne soon captures Dizzy’s mind and heart, steering him from satires to service to savior of his nation.

The movie comes to DVD through Warner’s MOD program and although the Dolby Digital Mono track features plenty of white noise, the full frame presentation at least was passable with only minor bouts of scratches and film damage.

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, The Prime Minister is an interesting drama with plentry of parallels to the incredible rise to the top of the UK government of Winston Churchill. It’s a bit long winded in spots but performances were decent enough.
