PLOT SYNOPSIS

While the Earp brothers may have won the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, they didn’t escape unscathed for long. Seeking revenge over their fallen comrades, members of the Clanton gang, including Ike Clanton (ROBERT RYAN), go after the Earp family, gunning down both Virgil and Morgan Earp. But they don’t succeed at getting Wyatt (JAMES GARNER). Now it’s his turn to seek revenge. With Doc Holliday (JASON ROBARDS) by his side, Wyatt forms a posse, and they won’t rest until every member of the Clanton gang is dead.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. The only feature is the Theatrical Trailer (2:18; HD).

VIDEO – 3.5/5, AUDIO – 3.75/5

Hour of the Gun is a bit of a two-edged sword. On the one hand, the detail is quite sharp, particularly on close-up shots and colors are generally vibrant and bright… on the other hand, however, this 1080p transfer is absolutely littered with numerous instances of dust marks, specs and film damage, to it’s clear this print, provided by Fox, did not undergo any sort of restoration.

The disc comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track and sounds pretty good. Between the clean dialogue levels and the sporadic gunfire, there is a fair amount of depth for audio coming out of the center speaker.

OVERALL – 2.75/5

Overall, Hour of the Gun is a good telling of the Earp/Clanton feud and features some solid performances by James Garner and Jason Robards who work well off one another. As for the Blu-ray, it’s another basic release with only a trailer and decent audio/video transfers.
