Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is easily the best of the series with the original and third movie after it. The action is intense, the suspense well done and the comedy is right on the money without going over-the-top. Although Tom Cruise deserves a fair amount of credit, I’m giving most of the film’s success (including financial, grossing $600 million worldwide) to live action newcomer Brad Bird bringing his expertise that has made Pixar so successful into a new world.

Immortals actually isn’t too bad of a movie. It’s got some good action scenes, the style director Tarsem employs is at least a little different from those that have come before and the acting is fairly adequate as well. The Blu-ray offers up some decent features and the audio and video transfers are both excellent.

Madonna: Truth or Dare is what looks like, an honest portrayal of a pop diva and while some of it gets a bit obnoxious for my taste; it at least kept my attention throughout its 2 hour running time. The Blu-ray is weak on features, the video is serviceable while the audio is good enough; that said, it’s probably a fine upgrade so long as the price is kept under $10 and, of course, you’re a Madonna fan.

Kate & Leopold is a fun romantic comedy where one should ignore the inconsistencies that often come with time travel. Even so, the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman is good enough to make this a memorable and worthwhile film to see. The Blu-ray offers up some OK features, especially Mangold’s commentary, the video isn’t great but acceptable and the audio is good.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy excels in the acting category, and more specifically an excellent performance from Gary Oldman, but the story doesn’t hold as much water as I’d hoped. Sure, some of the storytelling was well done but there’s so much going on and the jump cut from past to present can be tough to keep up with if you’re not fully engrossed. Still, this is a good movie worth checking out at least once.

The Ring is a well made, finely paced suspense-horror film that features tight editing and pulse-pounding storytelling from Gore Verbinski and some good acting from Naomi Watts. The Blu-ray offers up some OK features including a cool sequel prelude and while the video transfer is more than acceptable, I was a tad disappointed in the audio track.

Sony Pictures has announced the date and released artwork for the fourth movie in the horror franchise, Underworld: Awakening starring Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea and Michael Ealy. The film is directed by the Swedish tag team of Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein with writing co-credit to Len Wiseman, director of the first two in the series.

Tooth Fairy 2 sadly matched my already low expectations. How you will react all depends on whether or not you like Larry the Cable Guy; I didn’t so obviously this film was less than enthralling or funny. The Blu-ray at least has serviceable video and audio transfers so not all is lost. If you have kids then maybe its worth it otherwise just pass it on by.

The Adventures of Tintin is an admirable project headed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. The animation is gorgeous and gone is the creepy factor that plagued other mo-cap flicks such as Mars Needs Moms. And yet, the story itself never quite gets off the ground between mind-numbing numerous action sequences and, worst of all, paper thin characters who, save for Braddock, are so boring that it’s hard to really care about their journey.

If you don’t have anything else on the shelf for your kids to watch, then Hop might be worth a rental. If you don’t have kids, then skip it completely. The Blu-ray doesn’t amount to much either with light/fluffy features though the video and audio transfers are good.
