Serendipity stands out thanks in most part to its two stars. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale overcome a clichéd-filled script; to be fair it’s hard not to be clichéd in the romantic-comedy genre. The supporting cast with Jeremy Piven, Molly Shannon and Bridget Moynahan also help out in making this a memorable film that has stood the test of time (at least in the genre)

There’s no way around it, In the Name of the King 2 is a bad movie. No, it’s not so bad it’s good and I’m not sure even the MST3K crew could mock it for the full 90-minutes without giving up. Uwe Boll just might be our generation’s Ed Wood. He continually and somehow gets a modest budget; a half-decent cast (this one excluded), gets his hands on some video game franchise and yet still manages to muck it all up.

The Underworld movies have a loyal following but I’ve never quite got into it save for Kate Beckinsale, her costume design and the all around production design. In regards to this set, it is identical to the one released a couple years back except for a 3-part anime series. If you don’t already own the other set, it’s a cheap pick-up for three movies that have excellent audio and videos transfers and a good selection of features to keep you busy.

The Expendables: Extended Director’s Cut isn’t great but still a functional action-thriller bringing together manly men on the same screen together. On that front, the film succeeds and is at least a fun way to spend 110-minutes. The Blu-ray has solid audio and video transfers while the features are pretty good, though the best one was ported over from the previous release.

Apollo 18 is a film I can admire for its production values on such a low budget, but the execution is an entire story. While the set and costume designs are good and the acting is at least OK, this is hardly a compelling movie that is often more boring than thrilling.

Colombiana is an OK movie that thinks has more substance than it actually does. Zoe Saldana gives a fine performance and shows that she can kick ass and look great doing it, nothing wrong with that, however, the story never connects on an emotional level and the plot is something we’ve seen many times before.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a fun movie with incredible animation and, like the last installment, a great ensemble of voice talents. I wasn’t as enamored with the story as some, although I do like it wasn’t a mere rehash of the original. The Blu-ray itself boasts excellent video and audio transfers as well as a solid compilation of features making this a worthwhile purchase if you enjoyed the film.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a fun movie with incredible animation and, like the last installment, a great ensemble of voice talents. I wasn’t as enamored with the story as some, although I do like it wasn’t a mere rehash of the original. The DVD has OK video and audio and a decent amount of features, though if you want the most (in terms of all three), the Blu-ray is the way to go.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a fun movie for the entire family. Sure, the plot is nonsensical and silly, the acting by the kids is pretty bad and the jokes are easy, but I managed to laugh a few times. The Blu-ray has good video and audio transfers while there are some decent, albeit forgettable, features.

“The Simpsons” The Fourteenth Season might not be the best the show has had to offer but there are more than a few laughs to be had. The stories do get a bit repetitive but if you’re a die-hard fan, you’ll probably get more out of it than I had. With regards to the Blu-ray, the audio and video transfers aren’t exactly noteworthy but most likely a step up from its DVD counterpart while the features once again are fantastic (after the disastrous release of season 20).

“Smallville” The Final Season is hardly perfect and there’s still issues with the writing, but I thought the season long plot and the forwarding of the Clark and Lois relationship makes this a solid year and far better than the ninth season. The Blu-ray has good video and audio transfers but the features once again fall short.
