No Strings Attached hardly breaks new ground in the romantic comedy genre yet I still found it mostly to be a funny if not charming film. Although Ashton Kutcher doesn’t deviate from what we’ve seen from in other similar movies, he fills in the role of the doting boyfriend wanting more from a relationship and Natalie Portman is more than suitable for the stubborn woman afraid of commitment and the pain that might follow.

Material Girls has rightly been forgotten in the annals of time. It’s a film with no redeemable characters – despite the main characters making a transformation at the end – cardboard cutouts for the supporting cast and a story that’s uninteresting and predictable. I know some might pick this up when it’s on the Wal Mart shelf for $10 but unless you’re a huge fan of either of the Duffs and are easily amused, just pass it on by and spend your money more wisely.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a good start to the final film in the series that started a decade ago and I can only hope it ends in the bang most have promised it would. It’s certainly the darkest of the franchise, though Prisoner of Azkaban is pretty close, but also one of the best especially with the performances of the three leads.

Picture This isn’t nearly as terrible of a film as I expected but needless to say, it’s also not a very good one either. Tisdale is good in the lead but the story is really farfetched, too much so in fact, and some of the situations they girls are put in are ridiculous and beyond the whole suspension of disbelief. However, I did manage to laugh a few times which is more than I can say for other quick and cheap films targeted at teens.

I host all the Blu-ray screen caps on Photobucket but have noticed that at random, a lot of them get downgraded in quality so if you encounter any caps of 250kb or below, please add a comment in this post and I can re-upload with the proper caps. I will post when I have done so and all you need to do is clear your browser cache and the higher quality caps will be there.

I have no idea why Photobucket does this but it is irritating and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Love & Other Drugs is propelled by the leads rather than the story. I give major credit for the brave performances by Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal as they don’t go overboard with characters that could’ve been walking movie clichés. Now, the script itself is serviceable but nothing special, in fact it sticks pretty closely to the formula. As for the Blu-ray, it excels in the video department, has a good audio track while the features are more to be desired.

“Life is a dark chain of events.” That’s how this movie opened and I suspect this quote  struck home to the filmmakers as they wonder where their own lives are going. After watching Chain Letter, I would wonder that myself as nothing about it worked. There’s no suspense, the editing is manic, the characters are cardboard cutouts of every B/C-horror movie ever made and the story makes little sense even when the director tries to make a big Usual Suspects-like deal, out of the twist.
