Since soccer is not a huge sport in America, this is a rather odd release on Blu-ray. With the lack of 3D Discs at retail, I’m sure early adopters will snatch this up, but I can’t say that I’m very thrilled with the 3D.

THE MOVIE – 3/5

Experience the journey of the most-watched sporting event in the world as it was meant to be seen – in dynamic and vibrant 3D. Relive the action and intensity of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa as though you were actually in the stadium witnessing all the drama and athletic skill.

The greatest players in the world – supported by the most passionate fans – met up on the biggest stage in sports and made history as the 2010 FIFA World Cup enthralled South Africa and the world!

Clocking in with a little more than an hour worth of content, fans of Fifa (or Soccer in general) will love this 3D Release on Blu-ray. I myself and not a huge sports fan, but did play a bit of Soccer as a young child, so it was great to see this event on TV for the first time – not only in HD, but in 3D. This documentary takes us through the 31 days the Tournament took place and shows us several teams and their struggles to become #1.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

The only features are 3D trailers for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Open Season.

VIDEO – 3.5/5

FIFA 2010 is Presented in 1.78:1 (MVC 3D) on a 50GB Disc. For reference, this is in 720p, not 1080p like most Blu-rays.

The 3D aspect of this disc is a bit of a disappointment. The grass on the field appears like clumps of green, the crowd is a blurry mess, and anytime there is someone not in the direct ’3D’ view, they become a washed out mess. Given the small budget for this type of film, I guess it’s to be expected, but I was hoping for a much better experience. But when the 3D works, it looks great. The players look great as they play on the field, as does the ball as it moves across the field.

AUDIO – 3.5/5

Sony has included an English and German 5.1 DTS MA Track for this release. The sound of the crowd cheering and the announcer echo through all speakers, and the narrator comes through loud and clear. Honestly, that’s all this film really has – a narrator.

OVERALL – 3/5

Since soccer is not a huge sport in America, this is a rather odd release on Blu-ray. With the lack of 3D Discs at retail, I’m sure early adopters will snatch this up, but I can’t say that I’m very thrilled with the 3D.
