There comes a time when a film series just needs to stop. Take for example, the lucrative Harry Potter franchise. We will soon be done with those, but after the third one the movies for me at least got stale and stopped being fun for me. That of course, was a transition, which I just recently learned about. See, I’m going to tell you about how the latest into the Terminator movies, aptly titled Terminator Salvation, is going to be the end all for the franchise. So yes fans of the film, Bale won’t be back… hopefully.
The Kevin Smith 3-Movie Collection includes high-def transfers of Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. While the transfers for each film aren’t all too impressive, the new features including a fascinating documentary on the making of Chasing Amy, are probably worth the upgrade…
The Twilight Saga: New Moon is the second entry, following last year’s monstrous debut for the first in the series of novels to make the big screen. The first movie introduced newcomers and fans of the book to the characters and setup the plot that we knew would happen in the second film. It’s also worth noting that the third movie is slated for a 2010 summer release already, meaning that there is no stopping the giant momentum this series is likely to have for quite some time. But is the sequel better than the first, or has the series run out of steam before it left the station?

FAR CRY: Why. Just freaking why. The movie business is bad enough these days, and yet somehow Uwe Boll still gets money to make movies? Can someone just give me $10 million and I’ll give them a return on their investment? I’ll invest in those Zhu-Zhu pets or something like that. Did anyone learn their lesson when they gave him money for Bloodrayne? Then five movies later, he’s still churning them out at a rapid pace. Far Cry is based off the “Best Selling Videogame” but last time I checked, the game wasn’t a best seller and this movie is fairly loosely based off of it. Sigh, here we go again.
REBORN: I don’t say this very often, but there comes a time when a movie shouldn’t show so much nudity. Reborn, in fact, is one of those films. It takes “torture porn” films to a new level, and that level is called terrible. The movie has so much violence, nudity, and just plain stupidity that even I couldn’t find this a smidge noticeable (that says a lot). If I could, I would have much rather watched a G-rated version where this wasn’t so much female nudity in it.
Frailty is a fine suspense-thriller that starts out strong but doesn’t hold up too well as it neared the end. It’s not because of the cast as both Bill Paxton and Matthew McConaughey, along with Matt O’Leary making his feature debut, all provide great and engrossing performances.
After what many thought would be the series finale on NBC (a horrible Princess Bride spoof), the show was magically renewed for another, final season on ABC. Disney produces the show which aired on NBC so they are allowed to renew a show if the network cancels it. So here we are with the Final season of “Scrubs”… not. We all know by now after the second series finale aired ABC once again renewed the show (mainly for syndication reasons as the show makes bank, but also to appease Bill Lawrence who also has the new hit show “Cougar Town” airing on the network).
Something donned on me half-way through the fourth movie in the never-die Terminator franchise. It was during a huge, awesome explosion that something rang in my ear: cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching. No, not the money the movie didn’t make at the box office (a disappointing $371m worldwide) but the amount of cash the studio spent for the special and visual effects extravaganza; yet, they apparently ran out of money to spend on a half-way decent script. It’s as if the studio needed to see where the money was being spent in the form of explosions rather than, oh I don’t know, characters with personalities…
I just don’t get Vince Vaughn. He’s one of those actors that somehow manage to be in a bunch of movies, yet they are all pretty much the same dang movie. He’s somehow hopelessly in love with a girl but it takes the entire movie for some chick to realize how much she loves him, or some sort of combination of love and not loving someone. Four Christmases doesn’t stray too much from his comedy genre, so if you’ve seen one Vaughn or Witherspoon flick, odds are you’ve seen them all.
From Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the men who blew up the White House and destroyed every known landmark around the world in ID4 (and subsequently 2012) comes the 1998 monster-adventure that have split audience goers from being a totally awesome popcorn flick to one that completely raped their views on the big green creature. While I could care less how this compares to the Japanese versions, Godzilla has its own problems without making those comparisons.
Pixar is what Disney Animation used to be 50+ years ago. After last year’s fantastic WALL-E (probably my favorite film of 2008 and certainly one of the nicest Blu-ray’s) I wasn’t really looking forward to a Pixar film that focused on humans over animals, toys, insects etc. So I skipped the film in Theaters and awaited its eventual Blu-ray release. Right from the start of the film (a nice homage to the 30′s) I was hooked. Read More…
